Kesha Talks Candidly About ‘Rainbow’: We Need ‘Truth Out There’

As Kesha puts it, she’s been through hell and back. But the songstress has found a new sense of self through recording her new album, Rainbow. During an interview with On Air With Ryan Seacrest on Wednesday, August 16 — where she called in on the road from Tokyo, Japan — the songstress spoke candidly abut her emotional comeback single “Praying.”

“I think it’s probably [resonating with people] because it’s the truth and it’s honest and it’s super vulnerable … and in a time when we just need some truth out there” Kesha shared of the track, adding that the overall sound of the hit jam is also something new for her fans.

“It’s a totally different animal … I’ve never put out a ballad before,” she added. “This one I think probably surprised people … I don’t even think people knew I could sing the way I can sing … those crazy high notes … and to be honest, I didn’t really [know] either.”

The former bad girl, who didn’t know if she’d ever release music again, previously revealed that she wrote title track “Rainbow” while in rehab for an eating disorder.

“There’s so many reasons [behind the name of the album],” Kesha told OAWRS. “I wanted to reconnect with my childlike self which I’ve always associated with colors. I kind of got stuck living in black and white."

The songstress is next set to perform at the 2017 iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas.

“I’m going to be playing ‘Praying’ which is so special and so … emotional every time I play it,” Kesha shared of her upcoming performance. “But then I’ll kick out the jams also. … I already have some surprises up my sleeve which will be really, really fun.”
