How Long To Walk Outside To See Boost In Mental Health

Here's today's feel-good story:

Sounds of nature, like falling rain, flowing streams, and chirping birds are all calming sounds.

A new study posted in Molecular Psychiatry shows that a one-hour walk in nature reduces stress when compared to a one-hour walk in a busy city environment.

63 people were randomly assigned a nature walk or a city walk, with participants encouraged not to check their phones or stop in stores.

After the walk, the participants filled out a survey and underwent fMRI scans to measure their stress levels.

“The results of our study show that after only [a] one-hour walk in nature, activity in brain regions involved in stress processing decreases,” Sonja Sudimac, the lead author of the study said.
