Man Helps Barbers Fill Their Shops With Books For Kids To Read

Here's Today's Feel-Good Story:

After a first-grade teacher, Alvin Irby, sat down in a barber shop in the Bronx and noticed one of his students looking antsy waiting for his turn, he thought that it would be a perfect time for the student to practice reading.

That's when Irby set out to create Barbershop Books, a non-profit that has delivered over 50,000 free books to more than 200 barbershops in predominantly black neighborhoods in 24 states.

“Barbershop Books inspires Black boys and other vulnerable children to read for fun,” Irby told CNN. “We install a child-friendly reading space in the barbershop.”
