Bank Reimburses Entire Life Savings For Man With Dementia After Scam

Here's Today's Feel-Good Story:

A bank in Australia reimbursed Alex Shaw, a 78-year-old with dementia, AUD$500,000 from its own pockets after he was tricked by scammers into revealing his bank information.

The bank found that it was something they should be able to detect and stop before the scammers took his entire life savings.

“Day to day, he’s kind of fine,” Alex's son Victor said. “But that higher-level paperwork kind-of-stuff [like] managing finances… was just really beyond him. Getting the straight narrative as to what had happened… I couldn’t really work it out.”
