ABC 6, Scouting America, and CAS team up for Tackling Hunger Food Drive

The fight against hunger never takes a break in Central Ohio. That is why WSYX ABC 6 is teaming up with Scouting America and CAS on Saturday, October19, 2024, for the ABC 6, Scouting America Tackling Hunger Food Drive. 

On-air personalities from ABC 6 News, along with CAS associates, scouts from the Simon Kenton Council, WNCI 97.9 FM, along with the Mid-Ohio Food Collective invite the Central Ohio community to the CAS Campus, located at 2540 Olentangy River Road, Columbus, OH 43202 to drive through and donate non-perishable food items, from the hours of 8am – 12pm.

“CAS believes that strong communities are built on a foundation of strong nutrition”, commented Dr. Michael Dennis, Vice President & Chief Scientific Officer at CAS. “Partnering with ABC 6, Scouting America and the Mid-Ohio Food Collective is crucial, because everyone deserves access to healthy food. Together, we can create positive change, ensuring no one goes hungry.”

The ABC 6, Scouting America Tackling Hunger Food Drive is the local kickoff to Scouting America’s national 2024 Scouting for Food neighborhood campaign. 

Scouting for Food is an annual program, that will be organized locally by the Simon Kenton Council throughout the month of November. This initiative involves accumulating non-perishable items for food banks, throughout Central Ohio.

“Community service projects are a key part of scouting”, commented Travis Gulling, Scout Executive / CEO Simon Kenton Council Scouting America. “Scouting for Food is just one of the many ways our youth impact our community each year.

All items received during the October 19th, Tackling Hunger event will be donated to the Mid-Ohio Food Collective, to help feed our friends and neighbors who may be experiencing food insecurity.

“As a longtime supporter of the Mid-Ohio Food Collective, our stations value MOFC’s mission to help ensure everyone has access to nutritious food,” said Tony D’Angelo, Vice President, and General Manager, WSYX ABC 6, FOX28, and WWHO CW Columbus. “The October 19th, Tackling Hunger event is a great opportunity for our organizations to be on the side of the community, so no one has to experience hunger.”

·     Canned fruit (in juice / light syrup)

·     Tuna

·     Canned vegetables

·     Canned meat

·     Soup with vegetables
