Surf Mesa Talks The Rise Of "ily (i love you baby)" On TikTok

Surf Mesa gets in the Zoom chat with DJ Maxwell to talk about his rise to TikTok fame, his musical family, and more!

The Seattle native, now residing in California, hasn't even 'digested yet' what has happened with the blow up of his song ily (i love you baby). "This song took such a short time, little about of time to finish," says Mesa with the making of the hit song. "I was just on TikTok and came across this artist named Emily, who's also from Seattle," says Mesa, "It was a 15 second clip of a cover of 'I Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You,' I literally took the audio of that TikTok, downloaded it." Mesa spent hours working on it that night, "I finished it in one sitting."

Mesa didn't get his musical talent from nowhere. It turns out his whole family has been involved in music. "My dad has always been in a band, my great grandfather has put out albums." It's safe to say Mesa was born to do what he's doing now and if he didn't get into music. "I started making music when I was 12," explains Mesa."
