Here's today's feel-good story:
Nonprofit rescue organization Austin Pets Alive! is helping dogs get adopted from overcrowded Texas animal shelters where they are slated for euthanasia.
Millions of dogs enter animal shelters each year and volunteers have to get creative in order to give each one a different and unique name.
“Pet adoption is serious — it saves millions of lives every year — and it’s inspiring to see more shelter pet marketers having fun with the concept because really, what we’re doing is marketing among the most desirable commodities in the world: unconditional love,” said Lisa Lane Cardin, director of marketing and development for nonprofit Petco Love, which supports adoption efforts across the U.S.
“If you take two dogs that look very similar, and one dog’s name is Bella — my dog’s name is Bella, and everyone knows someone with a dog named Bella — and the other dog’s name is Tipsy, then Tipsy gets adopted,” she said. “It’s just a fun thing we can do to help the dogs have a better chance at being adopted into a loving home.”
