Here's today's feel-good story:
A New Jersey resident named Jennifer was fostering Beau, a blind Pomeranian poodle mix rescued from being euthanized in an Iowa puppy mill.
Samantha Hillstrom, who was in contact with Jennifer after seeing a social media post from Jennifer looking for a protective halo for Beau, thought that her dog, Finn, could use the companionship of another dog. Hillstrom video-chatted with Jennifer often, and began to fall in love with little Beau.
“Jen and I sat on the phone Facetiming for hours, talking, getting to know each other. She was holding Nelson, now known as Beau and I was holding Finn and by the end of our conversation I just said ‘I have to apply for this dog.'”
Hillstrom believes that her dog Finn, who also was blind, helped bring Beau home because 36 hours after he arrived at Hillstrom's house, Finn died.
“If I were never Finn’s mom and I never learned how to take care of a blind dog, I never would have been able to take care of Beau,” said Hillstrom. “It’s a tragic, heart-breaking story and I can’t believe my dog just died but I do believe these things happen as they’re supposed to and it is a wild part of the story.”
