What To Know About The Latest Measles Outbreak In LA

4/4 TO GO WITH AFP STORY: US-SOCIETY-DIS

It's time to take a look back at what you were doing on April 27th... because it could reveal whether you may have been exposed to the measles or not.

Yeeeeep - the latest measles case in Los Angeles was someone who visited The Grove, The Original Farmer's Market and the La Brea Tar Pits.

If you're wondering if having visited those places since April 27th puts you at risk, don't stress yet.

Here's what we know:

People who were at the above locations or nearby areas on the 27th may be at risk of developing the highly contagious disease for up to 21 days. BUT, those areas have no current risk for visitors.

Health officials in Los Angeles have been dealing with a small outbreak of measles recently, as well as travelers passing through Los Angeles. So far, we've been able to avoid any large-scale outbreaks here in Los Angeles, BUT remember when we talked to Dr. Drew... this is super serious! And if you aren't vaccinated for measles, you definitely should get vaccinated ASAP.

The Department of Public Health is urging everyone to make sure they're vaccinated for measles, but especially those who are going to be traveling internationally.

And if you were at the above locations, or nearby, just beware of how you're feeling for up to 3 weeks following. Symptoms of measles are obviously the tiny white bumps inside the cheeks and a skin rash, but also having a fever, runny nose, dry cough or sore throat.

And if you THINK you might be getting sick. Just go get checked. It's worth it!
