Why Do We Hold Meghan Markle To Such An Unrealistic Standard?

Happy Wednesday, everyone. Or, as you may know it as, the day that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, also known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, introduced their newborn son with the world. And let me tell you, those photos were EVERYWHERE immediately.

The couple not only shared the first photos of their son this morning, but also announced what they have named the ADORABLE new baby: Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

You can tell in the photos that Prince Harry is absolutely thrilled to be a dad. It's so sweet seeing how he looks at Archie, and the first interview he did after the birth melted my heart.

But the downside here... when the photos of Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and Archie were shared, people immediately went to criticizing Meghan's appearance.

Uhm. She gave birth about 48 hours before those photos were taken.

So the comments on these new photos of her saying things like, "she looks like she still has a baby in her tummy" and "go home and relax you look very tired" and "her smile looks forced" are NOT going to fly with me - or any other woman who knows what it's like to go through labor.

Meghan is, surprise!, a person just like you or I. Sure, she was once an actress and she ended up marrying a prince. So she doesn't seem normal, but at the core, she is a woman who just gave birth to her first child! And if she doesn't look as perfect as you're expecting, then that's because she's a real person.

Meghan and Harry technically broke royal protocol by waiting to show off their new son to the world for 2 days - if you recall, Prince William and Kate Middleton introduced each of their children the same day they were born.

So while you may think, "she's had two days! She should look back to normal!" Well, newsflash, you are very wrong. Women's bodies do eventually bounce back, but it certainly takes more than 48 hours to feel like yourself again. It took me more than 48 days to feel like myself again!

So can we all go shower the comments of their announcement post with love and happy vibes? They deserve it.

Congratulations, Duke and Duchess of Sussex. And welcome to the world, Archie Harrison!
