Gina Rodriguez Will Play President of The United States In Disney+ Series

Premiere Of Columbia Pictures' "Miss Bala" - Red Carpet

While we're all sad that Jane the Virgin is coming to an end this year, after 5 incredibly seasons, we now have something to look forward to seeing Jane herself... aka Gina Rodriguez in that will keep our sadness at bay.

And the role is INCREDIBLE and so perfect for Gina - because she will be playing the President of the United States.

Here's the deal on the new gig for Gina:

The new series will air on Disney's new streaming platform, Disney+, sometime after the platform launched in November of this year.

The show Gina is starring in will follow a slightly awkward tween girl's path to her eventual job as president of the United States, so it sounds like there will be some similarities to Jane the Virgin in the whole flash forward and backward set up of the show, except this one will probably focus more on the tween girl's story than the adult version of her. I mean, it is still a Disney show, after all!

The show, appropriately titled Diary of a Female President is slated for a 2020 release, but there are no further details on when in 2020 we can expect it.

Gina will play the older version of Elena (played by newcomer Tess Romero), a 12-year-old Cuban-American girl who, like so many of us, documents her middle school experience in diary entries. Young Elena, described as "unabashed, semi-dweeby, ultra-observant," will parallel Rodriguez's recurring role as the older version of the character who is pursuing the presidential office.

She sounds a little bit like Jane, doesn't she?!

Even better? Gina, who made her directorial debut on a 2018 episode of Jane the Virgin, will be directing the first episode of the new series and is also serving as executive producer for the show.

I am SO excited for this show, it's so important to have diverse shows like this for our younger generations to watch. My kids will still be a bit young for this one, but maybe in a couple years they will come back around to it!
