5-Year-Old Uses Birthday Party To Get Bedding Donations For Kids In Need

Tyler Sliz from Illinois is not your average 5-year-old.

Instead of asking for things like Legos and action figures for his 5th birthday, he decided to ask for DONATIONS of bedding in order to kids in need. Yes, at just 4-years-old Tyler learned of an organization called Sleep In Heavenly Peace and decided he wanted to help.

The organization mainly focused on building beds for kids in need, so Tyler was too young to participate. The organization doesn't allow anyone under 12 years old to help with the actual bed building.

So, Tyler then found a different way to contribute.

For birthday party this past October, Tyler asked that his guests bring pieces of bedding instead of gifts so that he could donate it to Sleep in Heavenly Peace, according to CNN.

The guests brought all kinds of pillows, sheets and blankets with them to the party, and two brought money, which Tyler used to go ahead and purchase more bedding to donate.

Since October, Tyler has secured donations from other local businesses and has surpassed his goal of over 100 items of bedding. In fact, Tyler has not donated 125 pieces of bedding to Sleep in Heavenly Peace and has no plans of slowing down. People around his community have continued to send donations and money, which Tyler will use to buy more bedding.

And it's clear Sleep In Heavenly Peace is thankful for the donations:

The organization shared photos from Tyler's donation-based birthday as well as a message about how Tyler and his family helped build beds shortly after his birthday party. While Tyler may have been too young to build one on his own, he was able to help out mom and dad as they built a bed for a kid in their community.

SOOO SWEET!

We should always celebrate kids like Tyler who are doing things for others, and not just themselves.
