Melissa McCarthy's Lesson To Her Daughters: 'Just Be Yourself'

Premiere Of Warner Bros Pictures' "The Kitchen" - Arrivals

Yes we know Melissa McCarthy as the token HILARIOUS character in movies. But what I love about her beyond her humor is that she seems like she has always just been so true to herself. She's the kind of celebrity who I feel like I could sit down and have a glass of wine with and just talk about life. And also laugh the whole time. Even though I don't know her personally, she seems to be so real and so aware of who she is.

What's even better? Melissa is working on spreading that exact same mentality to her daughters, 12-year-old Vivian and 10-year-old Georgette.

Speaking about this mentality, Melissa explained:

“How boring would it be if we were all the same? We’re drawn to each other because of all our weird, unexplainable character quirks... Life is short. Just be yourself!”

I know this concept is something we hear all the time "just be yourself!" but sometimes it really does take hearing it again to remind yourself that whoever you are, is perfect! Because you're being honest about it!

When it comes to Vivian and Georgette, Melissa said:

“My oldest has a really good head on her shoulders, but kids that age are always thinking, ‘Does someone think I look silly?’ I tell them it’s all silly and we’re all idiots! The second you embrace that and have real friends, you realize that’s the fun part. Who is the dumbest and the goofiest? Those are the friends you’ll have all your life.”

She also shared:

“I love to see my two girls just truly say, ‘I know who I am and I know what I like and what I don’t like.’ And they’re kind, so to have all of that come together is lovely.”

I love this idea so much and I can't wait to watch Aiza and Maxon grow up and learn who they really are and watch them embrace it! The more we can teach the younger generation to just be who they are and embrace the things that make them unique, the better off we all will be.

How do you teach your kids to embrace who they are??
