CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky Shares What to Know About Delta Variant

If you're vaccinated, are you protected from the new Delta variant? CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky joined Ryan Seacrest on-air on Friday, July 16, to answer our questions as COVID cases continue to rise again nationwide and mask mandates are reinstated.

"We always worry about variants," Dr. Walensky explained. "When the virus is mutated, it usually does so with some advantage to the virus [meaning] its more transmissible."

Dr. Walensky added that 57% of the current COVID cases in the US are Delta.

That said, if you're vaccinated, you're well protected.

"The good news is though that our vaccines work against it," Dr. Walensky continued. "So the really important thing to know is if you're not vaccinated, you're at higher risk of getting the Delta variant and you need to put on your mask … but, if you are vaccinated, you’re really well protected against the Delta variant."
