Here's today's feel-good story:
According to new research, the cure for osteoarthritis could be at the end of your nose as nasal cells can relieve chronic inflammation in your knee.
8.5 million people in the UK alone suffer from osteoarthritis and doctors say that this treatment could revolutionize therapy.
The cells, which originate from the embryonic brain and spinal cord tissue, are known as neuroectoderm.
“Unlike the cartilage tissue in the joints, these cartilage cells originate from precursor cells of the neuroectoderm. They therefore have a distinct regenerative and adaptive capacity—or plasticity. Tissue grown from nasal cartilage cells seems also to retain these special properties.” says co-lead author Professor Ivan Martin.
