Here's today's feel-good story:
Researchers from Cincinnati filled a vending machine with overdose prevention equipment to track its usage.
in 2021 from February to November, 637 people were registered for the program anonymously to access the vending machine which distributed 3,360 naloxone doses and 10,155 fentanyl test strips.
Researchers are hoping that this leads to a reduction in drug overdose deaths and HIV incidence.
“If you are interested in stopping, we’re here to help,” said lead scientist Daniel Arendt. “But if not, we aren’t going to turn you away and refuse to help. We are going to work with you and help you take steps that will help keep you safe.”
